Summary

I am an adaptable DVM student with a 4.0 GPA at St. George’s University. I have several years of work experience, three of which were in a leadership role. Among my experiences, my time working with Dr. Andrew Winterborn, DVM DACLAM at the Queen’s Animal Research Facility and my time working with Dr. Amy Doornekamp DVM in general practice, have been the most impactful in my professional development. However, I strive to broaden my experiences in the veterinary field and continue to develop my clinical skills. As an efficient, detail-oriented and driven employee I would be a great asset to your veterinary team.

Work History

Veterinary Student/Veterinary Technician Assistant

Millcreek Veterinary Clinic

  • Responsible for greeting clients, collecting and documenting a complete history, briefing the veterinarian and assisting in their physical exam and delivering treatments. During surgery I was responsible for prepping the patient, monitoring anesthesia and monitoring recovery.
  • When timing allowed it, I was challenged by the veterinarian to form differential diagnosis lists and describe my initial finding and suspected diagnosis based on the history and diagnostic tests that were performed
  • In addition, I was tasked with researching and creating a comprehensive document detailing the clinical signs, possible clinical presentations and treatments for Atypical Addison’s for staff training and client briefing purposes
  • Under the supervision of Dr Amy Doornekamp, I scheduled and performed weekly feline castrations for the Napanee Kitten Rescue. This involved performing patient intake, physical exam, premedication, castration, monitoring recovery, completing the medical records and client briefing following the procedure.

  • I had the weekly responsibility of helping collect data for a vaccination trial using guinea pigs as a research model.
  • I helped in collecting and processing blood samples, vaccinating animals, and terminations where I was responsible for post-mortem splenectomies.
  • I underwent mouse handling training where I learned to restrain, inject, and terminate mice while limiting unnecessary stress
  • I prepared cages for variable mouse trials including circadian rhythm studies, neurological behaviour studies and nesting studies
